FootGolf Malaysia

Well over 10 years ago Bukit Jelutong Golf Centre used to be called the Guthrie Golf Academy Pitch & Putt Course. It used to be an 18 hole, par 3 course with a pitch and putt for families to enjoy. The course was known to be for beginners. A Mickey Mouse course with no rules.

However, over time the back nine was abandoned due to flooding issues which became harder to maintain. Eventually the conditions were so bad that players stopped coming down and the whole area was left for mother nature.

In 2018 FootGolf Malaysia came in and revived the current nine holes. We’ve spent the last two years clearing and shaping the area to what it is today.

In November 2020 we cut paths through the old nine which were heavily overgrown, it was almost a jungle. Ten years had passed and the fairways and greens were now a sea of trees, bushes and scrubs.

We started off locating the greens and tee boxes for each hole and then proceeded cutting a path using the Ventrac before the heavy machinery arrived.

The long arm excavator did most of the heavy lifting, clearing the fairways which were more woodlands than fairways.

By the end of December 2020 we could again see from one end of the course to the other.

But unfortunately the heavy rain arrived in January 2021 and the area became flooded due to the drainage issues just like it did ten years before.

However, we saw this as a good thing. It now clearly showed us which area was causing the flooding. And using the long arm excavator, we dug out new drains, pits and cleared out the old drainage system to help the water-flow which all seemed to work during the rains, but as luck would have it, MCO was instated and everything had to be put on hold.

One month later, after MCO had ended and we could come back to the course, it was amazing to see how the muddy fairways had turned green and even some of the old grass on the greens had started to come back to life.

We’re currently in the final stages; most of the greens are playable, we’re busy levelling the rest of the sandy greens for when our brand new grass arrives and shaping some of the fairways to remove the pot holes with a backhoe.

With our progress moving along nicely now, the back nine will be ready for you to enjoy by the 1st of April 2020. We look forward to seeing you on the course!
