With the microLEAP FootGolf League 2021/2022 Season well under way, we thought it’s time to give you a quick roundup of what’s been happening.

For those of you who’ve been missing all our social media updates, here’s some basic info. The inaugural microLEAP FootGolf League kicked off on the 23rd October 2021 at our Bukit Jelutong course in Shah Alam with the aim of growing the sport in our community.

“This is the very first FootGolf League in Malaysia,” says Jeffrey Cottam, Managing Director of FootGolf Malaysia and organiser of the league.

“We had a total of 21 teams (160 players) starting in the qualifying round, since then the teams have been split into two divisions, Premier League and Championship, where you’ll see the best Malaysian players competing every week.”

Instant Growth

At the end of the qualifying round we received multiple requests from other teams wanting to compete. And we’re guessing the attractive prizes might have had something to do with it.

“We’ve raised a substantial prize pool of just under RM10000 which will be split between the winning teams at the end of the season.”

After some discussion, the decision was made to add more teams to the Championship division, bringing the total number of competing teams to 26.

“The more the merrier!” Says Jeffrey, “It’s great to see the sport and the league getting such support from the local FootGolf community.”

How are the teams fairing?

With only three matchweeks into the league, it’s still too early to tell who’ll come out on top, but the teams are definitely working hard!

The main difference between the two leagues is what it takes to win the match. The standard of players between the premier and championship are very different. In the Championship, birdies will win you the hole whereas the Premier League birdies aren’t good enough to split the teams. Eagles make the difference in the Premier League and they’re hard to come by, so you can imagine games are very tight all the way to the 18th hole.

Below you can see the current team standings as of 22nd March 2022.
